How to Register for the Florida EBT

The Florida Electronic Benefits Transfer program is used to issue food stamps and cash assistance benefits to program recipients. With EBT, there's no waiting for a check to arrive in the mail; your benefits are automatically added to your card by the 3rd of the month for cash benefits and the 15th of the month for food stamps. When you activate your EBT card, you can use it like a debit card to purchase food and to pay bills.

Apply for food stamps or cash assistance. You can apply for benefits online (see Resources). The interview-style application will walk you through the process. Once you have finished the application, you'll be assigned a case number. Applications are generally processed within 30 days.

Wait for your EBT card to arrive in the mail, if you are approved for benefits. If this is the first time you have applied for benefits, you will receive a card in the mail.

Call the listed phone number to register your card and activate your EBT account. During the phone call, you'll choose a 4-digit PIN for your card.
